We Built a GIANT Robot!

We built GIANT Classroom Robot!  One of ours went all the way to the ceiling!!!  We collected a variety of boxes, large and small, and anything that could make cool gadgets to build a robot.  Cans, lids, dryer hoses, various electronic parts, gaskets, gears, switches, foil, virtually anything your imagination can envision!!  To create our robot we needed LOTS of duct tape, parent volunteers, and team work!  I had a small group of students work with parent volunteers in stages.  One group created the body, one created the arms and legs, one created the head, several groups painted!  What a fabulous combined effort!  We made books about our robots when they were complete!

ROBOT EGGS HAVE ARRIVED!!!

We have a real live Intergalactic Robotorium in our classroom!! A WHAT!?!?!!  See the pictures below!

It is clear plastic jar or plastic cylinder with a space/robot type background, with a green felt pad in the bottom, and on top of the green felt are various sizes of 12 ball bearings (AKA Robot Eggs!!!)  Here’s how it works!  You present the Intergalactic Robotorium to your class along with the “congratulations” letter and Care instructions (included below).  The writing, stories, imagination, discussions, and conversations these little robot eggs inspire is amazing!

ROBOTS INVADE OUR CLASSROOM!!!

To kick off my class Robot Thematic Cross-Curricular Unit, I brought as many robots as I could get hold of into my classroom.  Many of these pictured came from thrift stores, and my own personal collection.  Many students brought in their own, or those they borrowed.  We also purchased a robot for the study.  My class collected quarters, bid, and bought a class robot from Ebay!  What a fantastic math lesson that was!!  The class was given time for free play to explore these robots.  They also collected and changed out the batteries for these robots.  Parents donated some of the robots and batteries, too!  There are many activities included in the unit pictured below, available in my Teacher's Pay Teachers Store.  I will be posting more activities in the coming weeks as our Robot Thematic Cross-Curricular Study evolves!
